This shot from VFX’s Eric Alba. It doesn’t get much cooler.

CGI is great but there is just somthing so cool about models. Having a physical copy of the Enterprise is the closest you will ever get to it.

If it were me standing there I’d be trying to figure out if I could somehow fit the largest model under my jacket without anyone noticing. ;-)

Oh jeez, would you look at that!

I don’t know how he does it, but I could never hold such a stone-face if I was in that pic, no two ways ’til Sunday about it.

So there’s ILM’s 6-foot and 2-foot models, Greg Jein’s 4-foot, and ILM’s closeup model of the battle section with retractable connectors from when the saucer separated in ENCOUNTER AT FARPOINT.

Gone are the days except for my shop. This just makes me want to do more big Star Trek Models. I have another planned. ;)

Reminds me of the “Galaxy Wing” mention in DS9 =)

So Enterprise D’s came in the same size as Takeaway Pizza? ;)

I found Eric Alba’s photo album, with this and many other images.

Is it just a trick of the angles, or does the 4-footer look stubbier front-to-back than the 6-footer?

II’m so modest, I would be perfectly happy if someone gave me the small 2ft-model.

I’d settle for a readable scan of Andrew Probert’s orthos.

The strange thing being in the presence of a physical model– I sometimes imagine what it would be like with hundreds of little people inside the thing. Not always the same with CGI. Maybe I’ve been awake too long.

Oh, what I wouldn’t give for a change to stand beside on of those models and give em a good look over.
