Great movie – If only Beaty and jack Nicholson could team up together on one . . .

I haven’t seen that movie in years, I need to get it from Netflix and watch it again. If I remember right, it was pretty cool, as that article says it is. Plus, I’ve gotta see *someone’s* Oscar-winning makeup again. ;)

I recently saw the movie again on HDNet Movies (It looked great, a Blu-ray release would be nice). All the villain faces were fascinating recreations of the comic art, especially “Flat Top.”

    Great news!

But you’re still evil for reminding me of the movie while my DVD is still on loan to my brother-in-law. ;)

LOTS of big names in film making given glowing kudos there…and our Doug fits right. That description makes it impossible not to head straight to my netflix account.

Score one for the good guys! Absolutely LOVE this movie. I remember seeing it in theaters when it first came out. Added it to my video collection. Need to get it on DVD. It’s been too long now! They need to release a nice special edition Blu-ray version!

One of my all time favourite movies. I’m so glad the franchise remains in the hands of someone how has a proven track record of doing Dick Tracy justice.

I shudder to think of what a Hollywood reboot would be like.

I’m glad Beatty managed to keep the rights to Dick Tracy. He really seems to understand the character and realizes the value of the property. “Dick Tracy” is an underrated favorite, and a true comic strip on film. Beatty mixed the lighting techniques of black-and-white noir movies with the glaring four-color style of the comic strip perfectly. I’ve always loved how the normal-looking good guys never make any mention of the grotesque visages of their adversaries. In their world that’s just the way it is, an aesthetic underscored by the fact that Madonna’s character has to don a mask in order to become one of the bad guys. I watched it not too long ago on TV and it stands the test of time very well, especially the make-up, which is surprising considering the advancements in that field since the movie was made. That’s as much a testament to the high quality of your work as your well-deserved Academy Award, Doug.

This film is one of my guilty pleasures and I don’t think Warren Beatty gets the credit he deserves for creating a fully-realized comic book world without the use of digital technology.

Maybe we’ll get that director’s cut I remember reading about many years ago.

    Doug

Great article. I love retor films like Dick Tracy, Flash Gordon and Sky Captain.

I might like to see a Dick Tracy set in the 1950s, but a reboot the film doesnt need.

I think is interesting that the film was panned so much, yet doug has a little golden forend called Oscar for his work on the picture.
