This is actually a thread on the Trek BBS.
I have to admit that was sort of a strange feeling to read that. On the other hand it gave me some insight to what Mark Twain felt when he said that ” The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated!”
We are starting up “Caprica”. Starting a new show rolling is a whole other animal. My focus is there. I’ll be around on the weekend. In the meantime I am still alive, I just happen to be at the crest of a scary new adventure.
Best!
Doug

Of … my FRIEND … Doug Drexler I can only say this … of all the SOULS I have ENCOUNTERED … in my travels … his was the most …. YOOMAN!
We miss you, Doug, and your magical interwebbing machine. Make a living if you must, but keep giving us that sweet, sweet Trek.
Jay
Hah! Here, here!
I should also add that Doug is really not dead … as long as we remember him.
Young! I feel … young!
Jay
Was he gone? I hadn’t noticed.
(shame on me, of course I only lasted a couple of days before checking up on him
)
Whew! Very glad to hear of your non-death.
Along with Jay: More Trek is always appreciated, but Caprica is very high up on my “Can’t Wait to See” list. So excited to see the other colonies!
Reminds me of that great line in COOL RUNNINGS “You dead mon?”!
Since you put up your blog it’s been a wild ride for ubber Trekkie fans that were getting their fixes. You must of put a scare into them. I must admit to being slightly disappointed, at times, when I don’t find some new little tidbit each time I visit.
Look forward to seeing your new work that keeps you from us
Doug,
Obviously whoever started that thread never reads your blogs. LOL
Keep up the living.
Sarge
Doug,
I figured that you were just busy with a new project. No problem, we’re patient. (We are patient, aren’t we?
)
BTW, I had bought the Caprica pilot on DVD several months ago. Perhaps you might post a Caprica thread, so that we can post our feelings about it. I certainly have some things I’d like to discuss.
No worries, Doug. We hang on your every post, of course, but we know this is just a side project for you. Keep up the good word with Caprica, and we look forward to whatever your next post is.
Oh, and if it’s not too much trouble…don’t die.
A day without a Doug Drexler post is lost day.
Good luck on the start of your new show.
Rex Duglar started that rumor
Good to hear that you are alright and busy working on Caprica! I wonder how much starships we will see on that show, but I guess animating proto-Cylons and creating Caprica, the city, will keep you pretty busy. Can’t wait for the full series!
Oh good grief. You don’t update your blog for a couple of days and people jump to the silliest conclusions. These folks fall into the same category as people who complain when a fan film doesn’t adhere to a (sometimes admittedly optimistic) release schedule they publicly set for themselves. Sure, complainers, of course you have every right to be mad about the delayed delivery of your free entertainment. *rolleyes* Puh-lease.
p.s. I’m reading about all kinds of interesting plot developments with Caprica, Doug… can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!
At least somebody noticed – and you can put that headline on a t-shirt and wear it to work, see what suitably pithy and witty remarks that elicits.
Figured you were busy with work, Doug. Still, it shows how much people are enjoying the blog when a short absence is enough to start the rumour-mill going!
I figured paying job was keeping you away. Good luck with Caprica.
I too wish to extend good luck to your Caprica endeavour.
Glad your “death” was greatly exagerated.
Go make some excellent TV Doug
We can wait.
Amen.
We are gathered here today to bid a final farewell to a faithful and kind colleague.
A friend who would never hesitate to offer his paw in exchange
for a simple smile or a slice of cheese.
Oh, wait, that was PORTHOS..
My bad Doug!
You are working on Caprica?
Now I’m looking forward to it more than ever
Reminds me of the reports about Jeff Goldblum’s death some time ago, just because someone at Twitter said that.
http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/220019/june-29-2009/jeff-goldblum-will-be-missed
Glad to hear you are still with us, your blogs are priceless. Looking forward to the new series. The best to yourself and your family.
Ok, who´s gonna write the obituary?
John Eaves? Denise Okuda?
Geez! Some people just don’t get the formula:
Doug posting less = Doug has a paying gig that he’s busy with = More good stuff
While we all enjoy the blog when it’s in “fountain of goodies” mode, go thou and maketh the more good stuff(eth).
Conan: Time enough for sleep in the grave.

It’s good to know you’re OK.
When I first found your blog, I was overwhelmed. So many posts each day.
And then, suddenly, nothing.
You have to admit that it makes you wonder.
You may be terribly busy, but it sounds like lots of fun, too. PLEASE tell us about it! OK, I know that you probably can’t tell us anything about the shows themselves and their plots, but you might be able to tell us a little about the behind-the-scenes angst and fun involved in putting on the show.
I’ve really gotten involved in the Steve Canyon serial, and want to know what happened, too!
I don’t follow the Trek BBS, so I hadn’t heard the awful news of your untimely demise until I came here and discovered that you aren’t, in fact, demised at all. Perhaps instead of using Mark Twain’s quote, you could alter it slightly to “The reports of my death have been completely fabricated.”
Glad your still with us, Doug. Unless of course you did die, then came back from the dead. That would make you either a vampire or a zombie. Of the two, vampire seems a better choice; they’re all the rage right now. Zombies never get any respect. And we’d get to call you Count Drexler, which sounds really cool. Just remember to avoid mirrors. And crucifixes. And wooden stakes. And the sun.
Don’t worry, Count, your secret is safe with me.
See. You see! You spoiled us Doug!! =)
We got so used to multi-posts per day, that when you go off and have busy-time, we all get worried.
I’m glad everything is OK. Don’t get too deep into the work-grind and I look forward to more posts when you can.
I knew you were ok, Doug. I hadn’t felt a disturbance in the force. Oh, wait, wrong show…
Never mind.
Happy you have a paying gig man…
Look forward to seeing you around again soon!
I figured Doug was busy with Caprica and I for one can’t wait to see the series here in the UK!
The way I see it, if Doug posts we’re blessed with great art, cg, photo’s and comic strips. If he doesn’t, we’re blessed because we know we’re in for a real treat when we see the fruits of his labours (I’m thinking the BSG finale here). Either way, we all win.
Hope you’re enjoying yourself Doug, and don’t worry about the blog. As said before, I’m grateful for whatever you post, whenever you post.
Oh, sure Doug, you’re not dead, but where is Max Rem? I haven’t seen, nor heard from him in quite some time. I thought maybe you two had finally had at one another and one of you didn’t survive. Which one is it – Doug or Max?
This raises a serious point. Someone call Jim Rockford.
Or, preferably, Carl Kolchak.
This MUST be the work of Chaotica
As a regular reader I’m glad you’re not dead, but if you are can we please have some behind-the-scenes photos, designs etc.
And Virtuality was reviewed in the last issue of SFX (186)

Have you seen or read “Catch 22″? Be careful, once enough people believe you’re dead…
Now you know how Abe Vigoda feels. Glad you’re ok!
Doug
Work first, post later. The more you work the more you’ll have to post…evil little circle of fate, isn’t it?
We’ll just take this little pause in Mr. Doug Drexler’s action packed blog to thank him for such an excellent site! Yes, we are spoiled! Thank you for all the entertaining Trek memories, images, and notes from the heart. We look forward to new postings when you have a moment the catch your breath. Take care Doug!
As the guy who made the original post on TrekBBS, I would like to point out that I did mean it as a joke (As explicitly stated in said post). Sort of a tongue in cheek way to say, “Dang, Drexfiles rocks and rolls with it’s frequent updates.” But evidently someone thought it was in poor taste and closed the thread. Oh well.
I’m glad you’ve got a paying gig on right now. I figured as much, since real life can get into anyone’s way from time to time. But, then, you have the job I dream about so i guess it’s probably not soooo bad.
I guess I’ll need to cut back my Drexfiles fix to just say, Mondays and Thursdays or something.
Anyway…. You my hero! I’m glad you’re not dead!
Hah. I find it hilarious that you saw that thread. Of course, you also saw that the staff there didn’t find it amusing.
Dang, I thought for sure I had won the Star Trek art department dead pool…I may have to back a different horse now….
I agree with above go and make us more ship porn…LOL
Terry
Aw man.
Threads like that mortify me. *headdesk*
May you rest in peace… on weekends.
Haha! That’s a highly entertaining article! Any time that you get busy at work, I just know to expect good things on screen!
Hi, Doug! I pretty much had figured that you were busy. Good news about “Caprica”! Best of luck with it.
Best,
Alex
Greetings from Expeditionary Medical Facility Kuwait aka E*M*F*K….
If you did die, I’d send this entire facility to find your Katra and take you and whoever your katra fell into, to Vulcan and reassemble you….

“Please state the nature of the medical emergency.”
This just in to Weekend Update… Doug Drexler is STILL not dead.
He’s really not dead… as long as we remember him.
How I wish you were working on something in ST universe, (preferably an ENT revival)… but hey, work is work… heh. :p
No worries.. those first few minutes in the resurrection tank are the worst! You’ll get over it
Hey, Doug hasn’t replied yet. You know what? I think he’s dead.
I was wondering how long you’d be able to keep up the twice-a-day posting rate, since it seems a bit much for someone who also works seven days a week on occasion.
I do hope, however, that most readers have taken a hint from your intention to stop this blog some time ago, and that they are informed enough to actually have a sense of your job description.
However, if you feel like it, what you can do is write your posts in advance, whenever you have the time, and when you accumulate enough of them, enable auto-posting on this blog, perhaps once a day. That shouldn’t be a problem for the historical Trek posts, and you can always mix it up with more current entries when you have the time. I’ve seen some bloggers do this very effectively, with up to a year’s worth of posts in advance.
Still, I’m more than happy with what I’ve seen so far; you and John Eaves have essentially brought about a revival of tech discussion, which had effectively ended years ago. A lot of gaps have been filled and I see many more of them being filled in the future.
Doug, my condolences on your demise. You’ll be missed. Even though I never met you and probably wouldn’t know you from a cross-dressing, one-eyed, gnarled-tooth vagrant with an obscene interest in under-aged boys, I like to think I’ve lost a brother with your passing. Your regular updates on so much of Trek history provided us all with comfort and a sense of place in geekdom. Fellow Trekkers, Galactica aficionados, make-up and special effects geeks, while we must morn our tragic loss, we must also remember that dear Doug Drexler has moved on to a better place. Probably. Possibly. Hopefully. And that he’ll always be remembered for his talent, wit, charm, and ready source of candy for little boys. Rest in peace, my brother!
Hold on … I think I mis-read the opening paragraph.
Those TrekBBS people have the knack for exaggeration. I know. I used to be one.
~PreatorX
He’s not dead, he’s just resting!
*dodges brick*
Doug, I’m glad to have time to catch up on your posts. I can’t keep up with you!
Reminds me of the avartar you made of yourself decaying.
What a lame TrekBBS joke, and what a cool rebuttal!
