Battlestar Galactica’s “beloved” line producer for all of its 5 years on the air died suddenly due to multiple health complications. He was 68. A 2008 Emmy winner, “Harvey as a producer had an ability to protect the writers and the most critical creative aspects of the production. He never allowed money or limited resources to be an excuse for not doing whatever was necessary to make the best picture,” a colleague praises. ‘My stock line about Harvey was always: ‘The guy just handles everything. I never hear from him.’ (And when I do, I KNOW the shit must’ve really hit the fan.) He truly made everything — and everyone — involved in Battlestar Galactica better than they deserved to be.”

Condolences to Mr. Frand’s family and friends as well as the BSG actors and crew.
Producers worthy of the praise stated above are rare and I can’t help but feel that TV and movie production has just taken a huge hit.
Hi praise indeed. I respect the man, even though I never knew him, through the comments of those who worked in the trenches with him.
Rest in peace, Harvey.
I recognized the name immediately but didn’t grasp the context until I read the quoted section below the picture. Line producers have a thankless job, especially in science fiction, and Harvey Frand did an outstanding job with BSG. He had a lot to be proud of, and I’m sure he will be missed. Everything I’ve ever read about the “family” on set at BSG makes his death an even more tragic loss.
Well he clearly had a lot to be proud of and loved his work, so hopefully that’s some consolation. Not everyone can be lucky enough to be part of a family both at work and at home.
Awww… fair winds, Harvey. And thanks!
A joy you lived your life loved and doing what you loved to do while being of good service to others. Can’t ask for a better life-lived than that, IMO.
LLP,
deg
PS. What a GREAT shot of Harvey with the Raider in the bkgrd!
You will always have a place in my heart.
Love you Harvey Frand.

I did not know Harvey personally, but reading these words makes me wish that I had been blessed with that opportunity.
Thank you, Harvey, for all that you did to make BSG a success. May you rest in peace and your family find comfort at this time.
Who knows what BSG would’ve been without him. Rest in Peace, Harvey.
I was stunned to hear of Harvey’s passing.
My last memory of him was at the Emmys last year. Harvey always had a big smile but that night he was happier than I ever saw him before.
Au
We always knew that we could count on you, Harvey. You were a pleasure to work for, and I will always remember you.
God speed, Harvey Frand
