A nice build and a lovely render Doug.

I always loved how the design of the Reliant and nifty lighting ILM did with it conveyed such menace from Kahn. I never noticed the red-tint to the lighting in some scenes until years later. That lighting and the killer score made those scenes of Kahn’s attacks just drip danger.

Oh baby! That Max Rem was really on to something there! One big happy fleet indeed!

I’ve always loved the grace and beauty and functional simplicity of the Miranda & Soyuz classes.

As soon as I read the caption, I said to myself, “—and closing…” I’m such a geek.

Yep, that’s some beautiful eye candy. It’s always been one of my favorite Trek ships and I love that mesh and lighting. :)

    Nice, Alain’s Reliant model rocks!

Love that Miranda! I especially love how it can change ‘character,’ to me, depending on the angle — from being downright sinister in the last half of TWOK to its much more positive vibe in DS9, etc.

But where’s the deflector? The things on the corners of the rollbar?

Those are the phasers as seen in TWOK. I’m guessing the Miranda’s deflector is an internal component.

I always thought it was those two emitter-like things cut into either side of the hull where the saucer meets the ‘secondary’ hull, and that they were just a different non-glowy design to that of the Enterprise.

Lovely design and a lovely render.

The day has finally come, there she is!
    Got Orthos? ;)

Actually I was never much of a Miranda-Fan, but this is one of the most gorgeous shots of the ship I have ever seen. Thanks!

I guess they have to EVA to resupply the overhead pod with torpedoes.

    Very nice shot.

Looks like there might be room for a Jeffries Tube through the Roll Bar. I am assuming the PhoTorp pod is an automated affair cuz I’d be hanged if I would want to be in that thing in a fight.

Doug…to answer your question…yep, that’s my Reliant. Seems there’s only one high-rez model of it…:) nicely rendered

  15. July 7, 2009 at 7:03 am

That’s very nice. I always thought of the Enteprise as the Cadillacs of the fleet and the Reliant as the muscle cars, like a Mustang or Challenger.

    Beauty shot there, Doug.

    Hello beautiful!

Gorgeous model and a beautiful render… but what are those “lines” (for want of a better description) that are flaring front-to-back on the inboard side of the starboard warp nacelle? Rendering errors, mebee?

    • 24 Millions
      July 7, 2009 at 9:44 am

you mean the slots for where the blue of the nacelles shows through?

      • July 7, 2009 at 9:52 am

I thought that was what he meant at first, but if you turn your screen brightness up you can see some streaks of light going up the nacelle and pylon. Wouldn’t have noticed it otherwise, though.

I’ve seen this sort of thing before. It’s almost certainly associated with the brightness of the light sources on the hull and the rooms behind the windows; you really do need the brightness of your screen turned up high to see it though. It’s still a gorgeous image and a flawless model!!! – Nice one!! :)

  18. July 7, 2009 at 9:42 am

Thanks Doug! Another beautiful picture (and wallpaper) for my growing collection.

  19. July 7, 2009 at 9:49 am

They’re also on the rollbar support on that side as well. Maybe an error associated with the lights? Otherwise a great render and model. The TWoK image that I think Alain made is the best I’ve seen with this model and also his Refit Ent.

I’ve always loved this ship… it’s great to see such a well-detailed render of it.

Does the “_sm” in the filename mean there’s an even bigger image?

Beautiful render, Doug! This looks like it was a fun model to build and you really did her justice! :)

    Beautiful!

Regarding the deflector – think of it like a satellite dish. The Enterprise has a big ole’ C-band dish, and the Reliant has two smaller (maybe newer), smaller low noise multi-channel type dishes. :D

    Nice angle. Looks very meaty.

Whenever I see the Reliant, I hear the James Horner music piece in Star Trek II when the Enterprise first encounters the Reliant.
