Klingon Transport

Klingon_Transport_000

The dart-like configuration of this vessel sets it apart from standard Klingon Fare.

Today we return to the Klingon ships of Enterprise. John eaves continues taking no prisoners with this highly unusual design for a Klingon vessel. Aside from the basic warrior’s green motif, and recognizable panel detail, there isn’t too much that says “Klingon”. Not a complaint, mind you. Just an observation. I could almost see this ship as a Nostromo sort of arrangement, where it plugs into a larger “big rig”. I don’t believe that this idea came with the original planning, but I buy it.

Agreed, strange design, very un-Klingon or is it?? Anyway thanks for this one, will make a nice addition to the Klingon ships done so far!
Any chance of doing the Altair Class and the Enterprise-J? It would be nice to see schematics of those 26th century vessels!

Yup I agree with everyone that it’s different but only for the good. That ship was like the “Sarajevo” to me – absolutely different from the other ships of the race (Sarajevo was “our” but didn’t have saucer, deflector or even standard nacelles).
Anyway, isn’t this ship partly a kitbash ? At least the rear part looks like it’s taken from BoP’s rear hull …

Ooo… This is another one that has totally escaped my recollection (wouldn’t have been the case in my hey day! :) ) If it hadn’t been for the colour-scheme I’d probably not have placed this one as a Klingon ship at all! This design is alot sleeker whereas your typical Klingon ship looks alot more industrial!
Cool design nonetheless! Straight into the references directory they go – This one will have its day for sure!!

Two weeks straight Doug! Two very full weeks of some outstanding showcases for the ships of Trek (without a doubt my favourite aspect of Drex Files:)) You’ve been spoiling us rotten! – Many many thanks! :) :)

Its a great looking ship, but it really doesn’t give of the Klingon vibes to me, atleast not asa complete vessel. I could easily imagine it been a ‘head’ of the Klingon ship, but it just feels like its missing something. Maybe if it had some small winglets or something that could do it? Eitherway, I still think its a great looking ship :-)

I wouldn’t accuse you guys of kitbashing, but parts of this actually look familiar. Is the hole at the front supposed to be a torpedo tube, like on a BoP, D7, K’tinga, etc.? (I’ve never watched Enterprise)
Thanks for the ships! They’re great!

I think this works fine as a Klingon transport ship. They would be looking more for lots of useable space and easily navigated interiors, as opposed to an emphasis on weapons systems, munitions storage and such. It looks as though she has decent sized belly guns, if I’m not mistaken, though!

John has done it again! The Klingon shipmaster could design a flying toaster and make it look great!!

I had always thought that this guy was much more horseshoe-shaped. I really like the wedge. I’m glad that TPTB let you guys build more klingon designs than the standard fare. The klingons were some of the best parts of Enterprise. I thought that they had kind of been dumbed down in the TNG era as this reactionary barbaric culture where *everyone* is a warrior. Then who builds roads and ships and who optimizes your warp drive? That guy swinging a sword over there? Not too likely.
The klingons in Enterprise felt real to me, and the non-warbird ships really helped out.

If this is the ship from “Bounty”, and assuming I recall correctly, then the reason for it not looking Klingon is it was a stolen Tellarite ship. There’s a line of dialog where Archer’s has been captured by the bounty hunter, who’s speaking to another of that race and it goes something like “You’ll not like what they’ve done to your ship.” Presumably spray painted it green and treated it like a Tarq house. :p

It looks like the Klingon twin to my ship, both of course were designed by John.

Matt, I actually thought of that when I saw it! I thought how the shape and angle of the nose looks *very* similar! What would you name your ship if you gave it a Klingon texture and paint job? :)

Cool design. The fore angle kinda reminds me of the TOS Battlestar Galactica front-on.

    Doug,

Thanks so much for posting this! “Goroth’s ship” was one of my original requests when you had asked people what they wanted to see.

The one thing I find funny about this ship was, until the episode it was shown in, ENT went out of its way to reinforce that Klingon ships did not carry escape pods. And yet, voila, this one did :)

I don’t think I ever paid attention to the Klingon Transport before. Sort of looks like something that would be in the TNG Era, because it doesn’t look so clunky. But I like it. Seeing Disruptor Ports and a Torpedo Tube. That things got spines.

I can’t say I get much of a Klingon vibe from this ship, but it only makes sense that they would have some diversity, and it’s certainly a beautiful design. Very good and detailed modeling too, I’m especialy intrigued by the docking port. I guess my only grip with it is that it is more of an abstract design and has less of the “practical” details, recognisable hardware, of the other 22nd century klingon ships. I was somewhat surprised that it seems to have absolutely no windows, but looking back, neither has the raptor, and the bop has very few.

Nice! I always liked this ship, mostly because it was so different from the standard Klingon configuration, yet still easily identifiable as one of theirs.

    Just an observation:
This ship almost looks like the nose part of most klingon ships. That’s why it seems so familiar. Still a good design though.

Excellent! I’ve been waiting years to see this one up close and personal. Definitely Klingon but something different than we’ve ever seen before. Thanks Doug!

  19. June 19, 2009 at 2:33 pm

Now there’s something you don’t see everyday. Why was it that in the other series of trek shows, we never saw these types of shuttles? Better late than never I guess.

Nice! This is quite a different design than most other Klingon ones. The tube in the front has a familiar feel to the torpedo launchers we’ve come to know and love over the years, but it could very well be a deflector.

The front end reminds me of the Scoutcraft from Insurrection, with the central oval deflector?

  22. June 21, 2009 at 2:32 pm

This is a great design, it looks beautiful from any angle. But as mentioned we could slap any other emblem on it and no one would guess it could be Klingon.

Hmm, I noticed this bares a passing resemblance to Star Wars’ Snowspeeder (T-47 Airspeeder if you want to be precise) from the Empire Strikes Back. The ship itself looks surprisingly un-klingon. You could slap a Fed symbol on it, change the color to gray, blue, and a little white, and it’d be Federation.

I’d say it probably look like a sort of proto-cardassian design, but it works well as Klingon.
