But I get ya, as seems these Trek 2.0 related threads can really get goin’, eh. Hopefully a fun and friendly attitude can be maintained to match the level of passion shared.
Doug, what are you apologizing for?!? The post header said what it was about. Most of us agreed with you that girders in the flight path are damned silly. That some got into a “my trek’s better than your trek” fight is just happenstance.
Why be sorry? I could’ve conjured up an excuse for it, but it was a legit question. (In case anyone cares, I loved the new movie and have been a defender of it.)
I love the movie, but feel no need to defend it. I’m cool with peeps that don’t like it, or don’t want to like it sight unseen. That’s their choice and I respect that POV as being just as valid for their own self, as my own POV is valid for me.
Having peeps not like it does not in any way diminish my own ability to like it. Two completely seperate and subjective experiences, that thus being subjective, in reality, have no real bearing on one another, in my mind anywho.
Hey that was a fun thread, no need to apologise (if we got too passionate about it then apologies from us!). Great to debate though, and considering all the previous threads here on Trek tech it was well worth examining it – just shows how much everyone here cares about Trek, whatever their POV.
Critique cant be washed away by the smallness of a buisness. In fact the irony of a media that reaches the mass, finding critique other than a “thumbs” up or down” is really the shame.
There hasnt been a “design publication” in the US for decades that ever critiques a professionas work, they seem to exist only to promote the designers of the moment–or software tools-) —- look and learn.
anyhow.
constructive crit, even a bit of dissapointment aint bad…
suck it all up folks.
and the blog culture needs honest crit, otherwise its damage will be much more than a few oddly placed girders;)

Doug is probably acknowledging that some of the VFX techs/designers on the new film could comb through TNG/DS9/VOY and pick out some treknical WTF moments.
Phaser fire out of a torpedo tube, anybody? And that’s just off the top of my head.
Definitely no apology needed. You designed the best-thought-out Enterprise there has ever been, I’d say it makes you the best out of a handful of people who are actually qualified to judge.
Wow, things got heated quick over there… As a liker of the new movie, I would like to extend an offer of peace to those who hate it. Like or hate, there’s still 40+ years of trek to enjoy before, and if all goes well, 40+ years ahead of us to enjoy.
The shot, like all of Svengali’s work on Star Trek, was final rendered at 1828 x 1556
cinemascope resolution, with the Mac-based Nukes proving stable throughout.
If that is what they call cinemascope rez, then the standards have been lowered a helluva lot.
Why? You opinion is valuable and appropriate ghere too!
Keep challenging us! Thinking is good!

Yeah, what’s the biggie, eh? No worries, Doug.
I thought is was a good Q myself.

Like DC, I also say “no need”.

Also, after all, we got more stupendous pics and an excuse to technobabble without license. And things went fairly tame, considering
I wonder why they decided to make the interior of the new Enterprise look like a Petroleum Plant.

This is your blog Doug. You can post whatever you want; we have no right to complain.
No apology needed.
Blogging is as blogging does…
I would not apologise either, Doug. You asked a valid question.

Rich, I question those as well… ok by you? And I will speak for myself, thank you.

Something that might explain why the ship stuff looks less than fantstic to me, at least as I saw the trailers and tv ads… this article says
