Today is the one year anniversary of Bob Justman’s passing. Let’s all take a moment to remember this wonderful guy, and the impact that he has had on our lives. He’s really not gone you know, not as long as we remember.
This weekend I’ll be running an entry on Bob Justman, so in the immortal words of Jim Bronson… Hang in there!
(Thank you Mike!)
Thanks, Bob. Fair winds wherever you be, eh.

OH, and a Then Came Bronson riff. Good one Doug. I used to love that show, eh. Varoom, varooom…

As you probably know, deg, Bob produced Bronson.
No actually, I did not know that, Doug. Coolness. Thanks.
Figures Bob was behind another show I loved so much, eh.

My hero!
I can’t wait for this weekend’s Justman-centric entry!
I enjoyed reading “Inside Star Trek” by Herb Solow and Bob Justman. It was the kind of book where you felt like you actually knew the authors after reading it. I was very sad to hear of his passing last year.
Wow geez, I totally had no idea Bob passed…I gotta get out of the cave more. I look forward to the Saturday entry.
I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Justman at a convention when his book came out. He was pleasant and a gentleman. He will be missed.
I never met Bob Justman, but I’m grateful for his Trek contributions. Thanks, Bob… wherever you are!
What other TV producer has made a bigger impact on pop-culture? He was the real visionary.
Recently, watching an episode of “24″ I heard the female president speaking with the chief of staff about needing some guy named Bob Justman for an important position in her cabinet. “Too much coincidence” I said to myself.
Only after seeing the names of the writers I understood: Branon Braga & Manny Coto.
It was a light but cool homage.
Godspeed, Bob
I always liked the interviews I’ve read or watched with Bob, it’s too bad he’s no longer with us. I’d be curious to know what the thinks of the this new Star Trek and the resurgence of interesting in all things Trek.
I was also surprised that I hadn’t heard of Bob Justman’s passing at first (in fact, I first heard of it in the TOS-R DVD feature Doug did with Mike and Denise Okuda, while usually I read about such things online). I consider “Inside Star Trek” to be a mandatory read, much more so than “The Making of Star Trek”. In addition to his numerous production talents, Bob Justman was great with words and had a very specific sense of humor that you don’t see much. I’ll say it again – read “Inside Star Trek” if you haven’t already done so.
Here’s one of his last interviews; in the second part of it, Justman does talk a bit about the new Star Trek movie. He also mentions his response to TOS-R, which is not surprising – after all, if they could’ve had better special effects in those days, they would’ve jumped at the chance. (I liked some of the TOS-R effects better than others, but there is nothing wrong with the basic idea, especially if the old versions always remain available.)

I’m saving my Bob Justman gushing for this weekend.
May the wind be ever at your back, Bob, and thank you.
Gus, the names of the men being considered for the Chief of Staff position in that episode of 24 were “Rick Berman” and “Robert Justman”.
I had the chance to meet Mr. Justman and spoke with him several times. I listened to his audio of Inside Star Trek. I really think he was a great person – kind, respectful and respected. I wished I could have worked on one of his shows. And anyone who works in this industry and also does part time community service work (Mr. Justman was a sheriff’s deputy part time I believe) is truly incredible.
Dan M sez: “Gus, the names of the men being considered for the Chief of Staff position in that episode of 24 were ‘Rick Berman’ and ‘Robert Justman’.”
That’s not a hard decision.
Jay: Ouch! But agreed, meaning no slight against Mr. Berman.
I never had a chance to meet Bob, but from everything that I’ve heard, he was a wonderful man. Look forward to more on him!
I enjoyed reading “Inside Star Trek,” which he co-wrote with Herb Solow. I still listen to the audio version of that (read by Solow and Justman) on occasion. Everything I’ve ever read about him or heard from others states that he was a class act, and just a wonderful person to work with. I wish I’d had the chance to meet him.
Ooh, I didn’t know he had passed away a year ago… coincidentally, that’s more or less when I was reading (and enjoying) his “Inside Star Trek” book, which was given to me by a friend who’s now living in Canada.
