That image represents one of the big reasons that season 4 is the only Enterprise DVD set in my collection.

Nice pic. Didn´t even remember the handle and the globe being this simple (especially the continents controlled through a simple bump map).

Too bad we never got a TNG episode in the mirror universe. I´m sure you guys would´ve had a field day with that one. :D

    I’ve always liked that logo…

So, you did the version for that episode? Great…

Aye, sir! If I remember correctly my version had to appear on a screen, so we truncated it to work with the aspect ratio.

I’m with MikeZ – a Mirror TNG would have rocked the kasbah. Maybe with Marina as the sexy but sadistic security chief with the ‘Big Brother is watching’ ESPer powers, always keeping tabs on the crew and keeping the boys in line …

Sorry, what was I saying? :)

Good thing we’ve had Diane Duane and her novels around, isn’t it? :)

Yea! Just what I was waiting for. :) Now I can have this image to join my others!! I use one has my avatar sometimes – sometimes one of the Enterprise with this and the other Mirror hull markings. Just call me Empress Deanne!! John would atest that I can be evil!

Thanks so much Doug for digging this out…it is tied with Serenity’s emblem as da bombiest (is that a word?), in my book!!!

I like the uniform patch, too, with the crossed swords. There are a lot of cool patches, like the United Federation of Planets – Starfleet Marines one. Who designed those?

    Since I haven’t posted a link before, I hope this works right…

Well, according to an email I got yesterday, ELO’s Evil Woman song pertains to me ;)

Guess I shouldn’t have sent John a card saying the his candles will cause “total annihilation”, according to Spock (a Star Trek themed ecard). But in my defense I sent another one with a very nice sentiment!

Love it! These episodes were so much fun and the alternate opening to the show that included this caught me off guard and left me saying, “Wow!”

Such a talented group, as mentioned many times over. I wish I have the creative talent of any one of your little fingers!! I’m gaining more appreciation for the patches and can probably actually afford to collect them. :)

You better get going on that bday greeting! And make sure he knows I’m spreading it around that he’s a year older.

The more I think about it, didn’t I see the logo with either more continents showing or something other than the western hemisphere front and center?

I think a TNG mirror episode or arch would have been great, but there is so much I like about this multi-episode version. I absolutely love seeing what “actually happened” to the Defiant (NCC 1764, that is) and getting caught in the web…great tie-in to TOS!! I ran the beginning back a couple of times to catch all of the aircraft and ships that went with the sinister opening theme music…fantastic!! I was giddy through much of those episodes. Trip’s scar was great, and Malcolm was the embodiment of evil. Even Dr. Flox got in on the evil action, but Hoshi won out in the end. – Empress Deanne is in command of the ISS Enterprise! Watch out. :D

Sorry, I tend to get carried away in the Mirror universe!!

    Doug,

I think this and Matt Jefferie’s Klingon trifoil log are the coolest logos in the Trek verse.

    Better than the Starfleet arrowhead.

Do we know who designed the original knife-through-the-earth logo from “Mirror, Mirror”? Was it Mr. Jefferies? Bill Theiss? Someone else?

I think its cool that Diamond is releasing a “Mirror, Mirror” Enterprise all decoed up in imperial drag – knife logos, spiked caps, oversize deflector dishes, the whole magilla!

DeanneM: There was a sword-with-Earth in the opening credits, where the Earth was spinning around and thus showing all the continents. I suppose that’s the same CG model as the one above.

Absolutely beautiful. I love that emblem

    Wow…that’s pretty darn cool!

I have to admit, those mirror universe episodes were my favorite. They could make a whole series based on that alone, and I’d tune in every week.

  17. April 10, 2009 at 3:31 pm

Likewise, I only have the 4th season set in my collection, when it started getting better. But no-one can fault the production and design on the show. I bet all you guys had an absolute field day doing those two mirror episodes!!!

That dark side of Star Trek gave an refreshing, alternate look onto established characters. If the writer of the first Mirror Episode ever thought about the impact his/hers idea would have and what would follow in the coming years.

That changed intro for “Through a Mirror Darkly” was thrilling and immediately set the tone and feel for the whole episode.

    Cheers

The intro for “Through A Mirror Darkly” had my jaw on the ground pretty darn fast. I knew what the episode would entail, since the title gave it away, but didn’t count on the brief ‘history recap’. Very well done, and it fit well into the back story of the mirror universe!

Harry: I do recall the spinning globe, but I poked around in the minute I had and saw these…

I hadn’t looked at the pic I have saved on my hard drive, but it is also like these images. I guess I just forgot that the actual emblem looks like this. The cool 3D image that Doug was nice enough to put up here is awesome, though, and it really had a nice feel spinning in the opening of the shows.

You know, I’ve always maintained that the Mirror Universe is the one where George W. Bush got reelected – that is, ours. And the alternate opening sequence confirmed that – all the images it used are basically historical ones (or reenactments, since in the Age of Sails, for example, there weren’t any photo, video or movie cameras around). The “regular” Star Trek Universe has long ago been established *not* to be ours… (Eugenic Wars? Nomad? Voyager 6?)

This was always a cool logo, and it looks really sweet in 3d.

That 2-parter was one of my favorite Trek episodes and my favorite Enterprise arc. Thanks for sharing it.

Cut me off a slice o’ coolness. 8)

Just a small piece though, say the tippy-tip of South America…
