Frank’s Friends

untitled-202

In Bob Justman and Herb Solow’s book, Inside Star Trek, they talk about Frank Oakden, a sound technician on the original series. It turned out that he was a talented characaturist.  Bob and Herb include a couple of Frank’s drawings in their book, but there were more. Some of these folk will be obvious to you, some not so much. Either way, it is a supremely human look at the folks who made Star Trek for the first time. Enjoy…

    Hey Doug,

    Very funny ones.

I’m the project manager of ST Excalibur fan game, and there’s a couple models we could use a help on good references (for instance, i’ve found your pics of the romulan runabout just after modelling it.. hehe).
Is there any way i contact you directly about references?
If not, you happen to have any good shots of the orion pirate ship from Ent: Bound? (perhaps a shot of the hull of the final enterprise J too.. hehe)

    Thanks in advance
    LC

Sorry Doug if I’m letting out any cats from any bags!!

Will you be sharing more BSG material in the future? Just curious. I like Trek much more than I like BSG, but variety is the spice of life! :)

    A belated happy birthday!

Love the cartoons. That’s Trekkie ephemera of the highest order, and a good reminder that the show was actually made by very normal people ;)

Not to mention that the transporter jokes had me giggle like a loon.
