A huge mural that Mike and I worked on together for the DS9 episode The Quickening. It depicted the ruined city where the story takes place, but in better days. This was probably one of the very first really large printouts made for us by the Paramount sign shop. Love the cracks in the wall. The episode was directed by Rene Auberjonois.
Cool painting! I need to rewatch DS9 from start to finish. It was the last TV series that I watched each and every week, but I don’t think I’ve watched more than a dozen episodes of the show since the finale first aired!
Very nice. Very Trek. And Rene Auberjonois, I caught him in a classic Night Gallery eps. the other night (so young too), that he did with Ross Martin, who was in full-on character make-up, shades of Artemis Gordon.
Nice work guys.
PLL,

Cool. Did you put it up like wallpaper or was it like a large sticker?
I feel that the Quickening is one of the best episodes of Trek that really subverts the sanitized feel of Trek that started with Next Generation. This ep also kind of kicked off Deep Space Nine’s turn to the “dark” side of the Star Trek universe with its not so happy happy ending.
Also, this mural looks like something i’d expect to see on a classroom wall in Pripyat (The Abandoned Ukrainian City that was evacuated after the Chernobyl disaster). A Rather creepily good job
I remember that painting. It was a good episode, thanks for giving us a close up of it.
I though that picture was actually painted on the wall before filming.
Nope! It’s a print out!
Here is the mural as it appeared on screen:

All the Teplan city surface shots (with the matte paintings) were great as well, nice how the mural shows the ruined city in better days.
I thought that was painted on, too! The cracks in the wall are a very nice touch. Thanks for the photobucket link for a nice shot of the mural in “action”.
I enjoyed this episode because it was different. It focused on people other than regular cast members and allowed Alexander Siddig an opportunity to show Bashir’s true dedication as a Dr. Despite his extra abilities and training, he could not control this outcome, as is often the case in life. But, his perseverance brought about an incredible change for the future of an entire planet.
Looking at the mural now, I can picture the new generations getting their world back to this former glory…cool.
