I Must Destroy The Earth, It’s Blocking My View Of Venus!

sphere_int_r02

Design for the interior of the Xindi sphere for Enterprise. This is the approved concept as it came out of the art department, and then out the door to Rob and his team at Eden.

(Below) Cutaway that would spell it out in no uncertain terms. Never explain when you can show.

(Above) There was a plot point in the episode where our team had to make it’s way into a sphere, and dock at a small installation. (center left)

(Above) An early concept with a more linear and “constructed” looking central core. The approved design appeared grown. I dig that idea. Frankly, I really wanted to do the organic looking one because it reminded me of Vgr.

They did a real nice job translating the concept to efx. Eden rocks. :)

I hears ya about time, just given’ ya some jib eh. ;)

Gettin’ back to sad daze (ala yer Turnabout Intruder clipping), I was way-sad that ENT only ran 5 as opposed to our given 7 (sans TOS of course), just when it was heatin’ up good (even though I loved the whole show from the get-go).

Doug, whatta ya think the chances are of a new show a’comin’ our way any time (soon)?

I figure XI will rock and get Paramount in the mood to turn on the machine again, ya think?

Amazing. Brilliant. I loved this design and had no idea it was yours!

Does anyone else think the “constructed” concept looks a lot like something the Suliban would build? ;)

I still want to finish up ENT good and proper. Even though it is considered unprofitable.

(Yes, the novels are damn good. But it’s still not quite the same.)

I say let’s do TOS turned up a little.

I would love to see a TOS return with sci-fi novelist writers. Do some of those way out there stories. Like in “Pushing Ice” with the strange aliens with strange cultures. Along with some good old fist fights with lizard men. ENT was definitely not as bad as all the whiners made it out to be some really good stories in the series. Just wish stupid scifi channel would broadcast it in HD vs a tiny 480i thin with black borders all over!

I would love to see some of those NX-01 prototypes done that wern’t approved!

Was there ever a scale chart for the ships of ENT’s timeframe?

  11. February 27, 2009 at 3:54 am

Madkoifish: Well, if we’re hiring novelists, let’s go all out: Diane Duane, Robert J. Sawyer, Christopher L. Bennett…

IN regards to a new trek series. As far as I know, as long as Les(I HATE SCI-FI)Moonves is STILL in charge of Paramounts tv division I really doubt we will see a new series:(

Your CGI work is damn near jaw-dropping, Doug. After looking at past blog entries with the Enterprise shuttlepod renders and that concept for the NX escape pod, it truly leaves me baffled at how much detail can be put into CG nowadays…Toy Story and Jurassic Park came out how long ago?!

What program do you use, if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve looked into Maya and Blender, but I heard someone mention Lightwave. Do you have a recommendation?

When I read the blog title I couldn’t help but substitute it with “It’s blocking my view of Uranus.” :) I guess that’s my inner smart-alecky 5th grader coming out…
